The
sensor of FreeStyle Libre should be applied to the upper back of the arm with a simple, disposable device called an “applicator”. When the sensor is applied, a small, sterile, flexible filament is inserted under the skin3. It remains fixed in place due to an adhesive layer.

To take a glucose reading, simply scan the sensor with the reader – a quick and painless3 process that takes just 1 second. This reading provides more information than monitoring using blood glucose test strips, without the need for routine finger pricks¹. The FreeStyle Libre system also offers software that generates comprehensive reports to assist with analysis of glucose data.

Take a Reading
Each sensor reading provides up-to-date glucose data, glycemic history for the past 8 hours4, and a trend arrow8 showing whether glucose is rising, falling, or slowly changing. The reader is able to read the sensor even through clothing.

How do I know if the sensor is working correctly?
To verify that the system is working, simply turn on the reader and pass it over the sensor to obtain a glucose reading. If, for whatever reason, the sensor does not work, an error message will appear on the reader asking you to replace the sensor.

If you have symptoms that do not match the FreeStyle Libre system reading or you suspect it may be wrong, perform a fingertip test with a blood glucose meter to check the result. For your convenience, there is a blood glucose meter built into the reader, which works with the FreeStyle Optium Neo glucose and ketone blood test strips. If you have symptoms that do not match your glucose readings, consult a doctor.

Can I feel the sensor during use?
The part of the sensor that is inserted under the skin is less than 0.4mm thick (1mm is the thickness of a few strands of hair) and penetrates the skin only 5mm; therefore, most people do not notice the sensor during use.

Does the sensor’s accuracy remain constant over the 14 days of use?
Yes, sensor accuracy remains the same for up to 14 days.
