How to use the FreeStyle Libre System?
Apply the sensor:
The FreeStyle Libre sensor should be applied to the back of the upper arm with a simple, disposable device called an “applicator”. When the sensor is applied, a small, sterile, flexible thread is inserted under the skin. It stays in place due to an adhesive layer
Scan the sensor:
To take a glucose reading, simply scan the sensor with the reader – a quick and painless process3 that takes just 1 second. This reading provides more information than monitoring performed using blood glucose test strips, without the need for routine finger pricks7. The FreeStyle Libre system also offers comprehensive reporting software to aid in the analysis of glucose data.
Take a Reading:
Each sensor reading provides up-to-date glucose data, your blood glucose history for the past 8 hours1 and a trend arrow4 showing whether your glucose is rising, falling or changing slowly. The reader is able to read the sensor even through clothing.
How often does the reader need to be recharged?
Normally, the reader can be used for approximately 7 days before being recharged. A low battery warning will appear on the scanner when it needs to be recharged. There is a battery icon on the scanner that indicates how much charge it has left.
Can I take a glucose reading over clothes?
Yes, you can take glucose readings over clothing by simply placing the reader over the sensor*.
* The reader can collect sensor data from a distance of 1 to 4 cm.
What happens if I don’t take a reading within 8 hours?
Older glucose readings will be lost if a reading is not taken at least once every 8 hours. For example, if you take the reading at 1:00 pm and again at 10:00 pm, you will lose glucose data from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
